Position Summary

The Aerodynamics Engineer will work within a small team of engineers and entrepreneurs on the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the GO1 Rocket Vehicle. Specific emphasis will be placed on aerodynamic, aerothermal, and aeroelastic design, analysis, and testing in support of near-term flight test programs. The successful candidate should have experience in multiple empirical, analytical, and experimental aerodynamics methods. The position will span a broad range of product life cycle development from concept development to flight test of prototype hardware to manufacturing and commercial operations. Interactions with external suppliers and customers will require the engineer to have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analysis of launch vehicle configuration and concept of operations from an aerodynamic, aerothermal, and GN&C perspective
  • Software development for automation of pre-processing, analysis, and post-processing CFD analyses
  • Generating aerodynamic databases in support of trajectory design and GN&C analysis based on empirical data and analytical tools
  • Conducting wind tunnel test campaigns to evaluate flight vehicle configurations and gather data for verification & validation of analytical results
  • Analyze launch vehicle fluid and propulsion system and component-level performance in support of design functions

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or similar
  • Demonstrated understanding of launch vehicle and aircraft configuration design including provisions for subsystem packaging, propulsion integration, stability and control
  • Proficiency in computational fluid dynamics modeling of internal and external flows across all Mach number regimes (subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic) including unsteady phenomena, turbulence modeling, and chemical & thermal non-equilibrium
  • Proficiency in CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+, Cart3D, FUN3D, OpenFOAM, DPLR, and/or OVERFLOW

Responsibilities

  • Design, analysis, manufacture, integration and test of launch vehicle pressure vessels
  • Design, analysis, manufacture, integration and test of propulsion system components including propellant feedlines, valves, insulation, and seals
  • Support mechanical, electrical, and fluid integration of vehicle propulsion subsystems including liquid rocket engine, propellant tanks, and pressurization systems
  • Develop and execute test procedures for verification and validation of systems and components including qualification and acceptance testing

 

Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in AE, ME, or similar
  • Experience in lightweight pressure vessel design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, and qualification

  • Fundamental understanding of dynamic environments including shock, vibration, and acoustic loads

Position Summary

The Lead Mission Manager will work within a small team of engineers and entrepreneurs on the licensing, certification, and operations of the GO1 launch system. Specific emphasis will be placed on mission analysis, licensing, certification, safety, and operations for near-term flight test programs. The successful candidate must be experienced in the multiple R&D and operational flight programs, FAA licensing regimes, and DoD flight vehicle certification. Interactions with external agencies and customers will require the engineer to have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop an intimate knowledge of GO1 system and subsystems including capabilities, performance, and interfaces
  • Lead FAA/AST launch license application preparation, submission, and review support
  • Lead DoD launch vehicle certification efforts in support of flight test applications
  • Lead system-level failure modes, effects, and cause analysis (FMECA)
  • Lead company-wide safety process development, implementation, and maintenance
  • Foster and manage customer relationships including requirements definition for payload, mission, and operations; schedule management; and support of technical interchanges
  • Manage mission-specific interface control documents (ICDs)
  • Conduct mission-specific analysis relevant to licensing, certification, payload support and operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, implementation, and maintenance of systems engineering practices, processes, and tools within the scope of requirements management, configuration control, and risk management
  • Manage system-level budgets including mass, power/energy, link, and fluids, including contingencies and margins
  • Manage system-level performance estimates
  • Lead multidisciplinary trade study, sensitivity, and optimization efforts at the system level to inform design, manufacturing, and operations decisions for launch vehicle and hypersonic systems

Responsibilities

  • Support full software product lifecycle development including requirements definition, design, construction, integration, testing, debugging, deployment, and maintenance
  • Design, development, and testing of software for embedded systems including FPGAs, and microcontrollers.
  • Development, implementation, and integration of communication protocols (Ethernet, Mil-Std 1553, ARINC-429, and serial (RS-232|422|423|485))

Specific emphasis will be placed on managing elements of IT infrastructure including network systems, workstations, and phone systems. Further, the candidate will be responsible for implementing information security processes and procedures designed to safeguard corporate data and IT systems. Finally, the candidate will work directly with staff across the organization to develop, deploy, and manage enterprise software systems including commercial products (JIRA, Confluence, GIT, SVN) along with in-house developed tools. The position will support a broad range of tasks from hardware specification and deployment to software development and testing. Interactions with staff and external vendors will require the candidate to have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IT practices and policies to support efficient operations while maintaining availability and security
  • Deploy, configure, and manage all IT infrastructure elements including Linux servers, Windows workstations, VoIP phone systems, firewalls, switches, wireless access points, printers, and A/V equipment
  • Respond quickly to IT issues including troubleshooting computer hardware, software, operating system, and IP network issues
  • Develop and maintain Atlassian back-ends (JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo) including server maintenance, custom issue and workflow implementations, back-end database modification, documentation schemes and template development
